3fold support an organisation in Nagpur, India, called Ashirvad Kanti. This group work to help the poor and needy in the slums and streets of India. The organsiation was founded by Sattu and Pushpa Waghmare, who were confronted by the poverty they saw all around them and the many sad stories they encountered on a daily basis.
They began by taking children into their home whom they found on the streets. From there, the organisation has grown and their programs now encompass running pre-schools in several slums, funding a medical van that provides free medical treatment, working with local doctors and government to assist those affected by HIV and AIDS, providing vocational training and helping communities create employment opportunities and become self-sufficient.
Ashirvad Kanti currently rent a house to provide a small children’s home. They have purchased land in Nagpur and are constructing an education and accommodation facility, which will provide housing and a loving environment for children in need, as well as provide training, schooling and medical services for the local community.
India has always been a country of interest for 3fold given the background of several of our employees. Francis D’Mello (Director) grew up in Nagpur where the organisation is based, so when the opportunity came to get involved, there was a desire to find out more. 3fold’s first step in helping this organisation was to purchase a bus to take children to and from school. Public buses often do not bother to stop for poor children, so this has been key in helping them get to school and get an education. We are now assisting with funding for the construction of the accommodation facility.
3fold’s partnership extends to meeting, spending time and forming relationships with the children in the home. Several of our staff members have travelled to India to visit the home and these beautiful children have certainly captured our hearts.
